Always remember that any child with a disability or special needs, is a child first of all. Any condition they may have should always come second.

Appointees and agents for disabled people

What are appointees and agents?

A disabled person who needs help getting social security benefits can ask for someone else to be made her/his appointee or agent.

What are appointees and agents roles and responsibly

An appointee can take on the responsibility of claiming and collecting benefit for someone who is unable to do this her/himself.

An agent can arrange to collect benefit from the post office for someone who is unable to get there, but the disabled person remains responsible for her/his claim.

Where can I find out more information of what this would involve

If you want to become an appointee or agent or are a disabled person who needs this kind of help you should contact you’re nearest Citizens Advice Bureau.
