Special needs services

Pinderfields and Pontefract Hospital School
Early Years Assessment Centre

· All children who attend the centre are between the ages of 2and 5 years and have a medical condition some children may have a statement of Special Educational Need.

· It will be regarded that further assessment is needed to determine an appropriate future School where the child feels welcome and belongs.

· They will:
· Work closely with parent, carers and professionals.

· Keep parents and carers well informed about their Childs progress and activities in the centre.

· Foster early learning and play skills by setting targets for each Childs stage of development. Targets are reflected in the Individual Education Plan.

· Provide opportunities for all children to develop communication skills. This may include sign, supported English, British Sign Language, communication boards and computer technology.

· Help a child settle into their new school.

Arrangement for a child’s attendance are flexible a combination of sessions can be arranged.

Parent can make their own transport arrangements for their child to attend the centre or alternatively an application for school transport, with an escort can be made

The Curriculum
Their deliver the Foundation Stage Curriculum to all children. Each child has specific small step targets designed to meet their developmental needs

Multi-sensory experience
In addition to working, playing and learning with the early years staff your child will meet other professional.

· The Speech and Language Therapist
· The Occupational Therapist
· The Educational Psychologist
